The delirium dive is one of the world famous freeride zones, which is noted by the Sydney Morning Herald as one of the top 10 of the worlds best freeride destinations. The delirium dive can be found just outside Banff in the ski area of Sunshine Village. When you take up the Continental Divide lift, you can follow the signs to the check-in gate of the delirium dive.
Special restrictions are in order for the delirium drive. This means that you need to have at least a Beacon, Probe & Shovel. Furthermore, you have to ride with a buddy. When you fulfill all those requirements you can go through the gate and hike up for a few minutes, where you arrive at the amazing view over the delirium drive. There are different ways to “dive” in, which are all clearly indicated on a map on top of the delirium drive. Nonetheless, make sure that you know what the avalanche hazards are, at all times!!
If you’re standing on top of the delirium drive you can head to the left to the X-drive, which is a bit more “shit your pants line”
according to a local, than when you head to the right. At the top there is a six meter band of rocks that crown the top of the dive. You can negotiate your way through these cliffs or simply drop in. When you go to the right, you have t
o take a small stair down where you find the largest dive in dive proper. This is a easier way to drop in.
At the end of the delirium dive you need to hike a little bit… Whereafter, you can join the other skiers on the green groomer down to the nearest lift.
