She can Ski Sunday: Matilda Rapaport

In Lifestyleby sheandski

This week at She can Ski we look back at someone who has meant a lot in the field of winter sports. We try to represent the women in winter sports and that is why we would like it to give this woman a spotlight.
This Swedish skier has unfortunately not become older than 30 years. In 2016, she was killed by an avalanche in Chile while recording the “Steep” movie. We are talking about Matilda Rapaport ofcourse.

Matilda started out as an alpine racing skier but has mainly proven herself in freeride skiing. She has skied several races within the Freeride World Tour. In 2013, she came in through a wildcard and won the Xtreme Verbier competition.

Just before her accident, she married her boyfriend and alpine World Cup racer Mattias Hargin. Her husband has set up a foundation to support other skiers to pursue their passion. He also wants more equality between men and women in the ski world and wants to increase safety in the mountains (for more info: http://rapaporthargin.com)

Unfortunately we have not been able to enjoy her ski qualities for long, but you can still find them in the film; Shades of Winter (2013), Pure (2014) and Between (2016).
