Laura & Maylin

  • Age: 34 & 27 years
    Three #hashtags that describe you: #snowaddicted #mountaingirls #apresskilegenden
  • Where can we find you:
Summer: hiking and biking in the mountains
Winter: skiing as much as possible Or on the dancefloor;)

1. Where does your passion for skiing come from?

Our stories of how we started to learn skiing are not quite the same. Laura started skiing when she was three years old and was on ski vacation at Turracher Höhe in Austria pretty much every year. Maylin started skiing when she was already 12 years old in Lofer, Austria and went skiing in different places in Austria once a year.

Our passion for skiing definitely started during our first ski instructor course. It is actually a funny story, because we both started the course for the same reason. We wanted to go on ski vacation, but none of our friends had time or money to come along. So we decided to do the course in the hope to get to know new people who share the same passion for skiing and moreover to improve our skiing. We never thought that we would be that stoked about it and went along with more instructor courses. Skiing is just such a complex sport and we love the fact that you are always out in the mountains connected with nature.

2. How is your summer vs. Winter?

Of course our first choice would always be winter, but summer has definitely its benefits as well. We love to go hiking and to climb as many new mountains as possible. Also Laura does a lot of mountainbiking in the summer. Besides that we simply try to spend as much time as possible outdoors near lakes surrounded by mountains.

3. What are your dreams for the next three years?

We hope that we are able to ski, hike, climb and laugh together as much as possible. Besides that we really want to improve our skiing in order to reach personal goals, but never want to loose the passion and joy skiing brings along. Moreover we hope to be able to spend as much time together in the mountains as possible, to stay healthy and fit without any injuries. Because health is priceless!

4. What should not be missing in your backpack when you go skiing for a day?

First Aid Kit – better be safe than sorry
Redbull – to keep up the power at any time
Suncreen/Latschenkiefer – to support the goggle tan;)
Powerbank – cause you never know how long the day is going to be

5. How do you stay fit during summer?

Laura does a personalized training at her gym that is designed for improving her fitness according to skiing and Maylin does CrossFit 3-4 times a week to improve her overall fitness. TGWS - Laura She & Ski

6. What has motivated you to start with Two Girls Who Ski?

The motivation about our Instagram account is actually just a coincidence as well. Almost a year ago we were at the season opening in Zell am See. A friend of ours was over for the weekend and went skiing and to Aprés ski with us. He joked around about how crazy and entertaining the two of us are and that we could start an Instagram account together. So we actually opened up that account in the middle of the night after the season opening concert of “Bilderbuch” in Zell am See. So that account was pretty much a joke to us in the beginning, because we never thought that many people would be interested in our lifes. However during the past year there were more and more people following our Instagram and we are more than happy that we can let them be part of our adventures and maybe inspire as many people as possible to go outside and enjoy nature.

The background to our friendship though goes way more back than that. Originally we both are from the same Village near Hamburg in northern Germany. We have known each other for about 20 years now. Our sisters went to primary school together and besides that it is a small village, where everyone knows everyone. There was a time where we didn’t have a whole lot of contact to each other, but you can say that the passion for skiing has brought us back together.

We are happy to have the same interests and a great friendship and if this is something that encourages people to do more outdoors, that would serve the whole purpose of our Instagram page.

So hang loose and discover the world’s largest playground – Nature!
